Bos primigenius, or the ancient ancestor to the modern day cow, was a prominent animal young men used to test their strength against. These great black steers were hunted throughout Europe to the point of near extinction during the 1600s until a pair of brothers “recreated” them in 1920. Here’s more with The Aurochs.
