Grant Money To Study Technology And Human Trafficking

Microsoft Research and the Microsoft Digital Crimes Unit recently unveiled plans for a $150,000 study regarding the role of technology in the increasing number of human trafficking cases. The project will be coordinated by Dr. Danah Boyd, senior Microsoft research, and Rane Johnson, a principal research directer at Microsoft. The pair will lead an expanded investigation into how social media, the Internet, and mobile technologies have increased commercial sexual exploitation, forced labor, and the many other forms of modern day slavery affecting over 2.5 million people in an estimated $31.6 billion dollar industry every year.
